Hiking and cycling trails abound here. The Savelsbos, but also nature reserves such as the Mescher Plukbos, Het Tiende Vrij hiking park and the Eijsder Beemden with its many species of butterflies, migratory birds, Konik horses and Scottish Galloway cattle are just around the corner.

Highlights

Hiking in the Savels forest

Beautiful hillside forest with old marl quarry passages and special fauna and flora. In April, walk through a white carpet of blooming wild garlic. From Landgoed Moerslag, you walk straight into this special forest.

Gastronomic Maastricht

Shopping, strolling, soaking up culture, but above all enjoying yourself as the locals do on one of the many terraces, squares, cafés and restaurants. During the Christmas period, of course you visit Magical Maastricht.

Cycling through the hills

Forests, tall-stemmed fruit trees, hawthorn hedges, rolling hills, as well as calving slopes. South Limburg is a true cycling paradise for recreational cyclists, but certainly also for cyclists and mountain bikers.

Belgian Voer region

Steep hills, dense forests and cosy villages such as Teuven, Aubel and ‘s Gravenvoeren. Authentic half-timbered houses, numerous churches, castles and chapels form a beautiful scenery.

Marl town Valkenburg

Beating heart of the Hill Country. Strolling, spa Thermae2000, visiting the caves and grabbing a terrace. Immerse yourself completely in the Christmas spirit from November during Christmas town Valkenburg.

Regional markets

Stroll along trinkets at the famous antiques & brocante market in Tongeren (B) on Sunday or in Liège (B) on Friday. Or stroke your taste buds at the local produce market in Aubel (B) or Liège( B) on Sundays.

Monumental Liège

Shop, soak up culture in museums or visit the futuristic Liège-Guillemins railway station designed by architect Calatrava. Take a city walk along the many historic buildings and eat Liège ‘boulettes’ in a bistrot.

Netherlands American cemetery

Visit the impressive American cemetery in nearby Margraten where more than 8,000 soldiers are buried who died during the liberation of the south-eastern Netherlands in W.O.II.

Imperial town of Aachen

Stroll through the shopping streets, visit the famous Cathedral with Charlemagne’s tomb and settle down on the terraces in the many squares like the many students. Cool down at the Elisenbrunnen and try an ‘Aachener Print’.

Water leisure

Cool down on the banks of the Maasplas with many water sports facilities. Watch the water fun at the marinas, visit the nature reserve and spot water birds, take a cruise or visit Day Beach Oost-Maarland.
